🎾 WHAT IS THE SENIOR OPEN?
The Senior Open (50+) is a competitive, team-based bracket within the KLYNG CUP — Canada’s biggest inter-club pickleball league. This bracket is built specifically for players 50 years and older who want a fun, structured, and seriously competitive team environment.
- ✅ Competitive, open-level format (4.5+ or equivalent level)
- ✅ 3 Seasons · 2 Stops per Season
- ✅ Separate Senior Open Championship. Each team has 6 players (3 men, 3 women)
- ✅ Matches tracked in the KLYNG CUP app
- ✅ Live standings and leaderboard. Accumulative personal performance tracking and analysis
🔀 WHO CAN FORM A TEAM?
The KLYNG CUP Senior Open uses a hybrid model:
👥 Club-Formed Teams
Represent your club proudly with a structured roster and team captain.
🃏 Independent Teams (Wildcard Teams)
No club? No problem. You and your pickleball crew can register as a team, no affiliation needed. Just choose your team name, form your team and be ready to compete!
➡️ All teams compete equally. Club or not, if you’ve got the shots, the strategy, and the heart — you’re in.

KLYNG CUP – Club/Teams Points & Top 8 Qualification
(3 Seasons · Points Reset Each Season)
🔁 Season Reset Rule (Very Important)
At the start of every season, all clubs reset to 0 points.
- Seasonal Champion automatically moves to the final.
- Points do NOT carry over to the next season. Every season is a fresh competitive cycle.
📊 How Club Points Are Earned (Per Season)
In each season, clubs earn points from every match played:
- Win: 3 points
- Loss: 1 point
Key Notes
- Every match counts
- Playing more matches = more opportunities to earn points
- Even in a loss, clubs still earn points for participation
- Points are accumulated within that season only
🥇 Season Standings (Per Season)
At the end of each season, club points are totaled:
- Clubs are ranked based on total season points
- The top-ranked club becomes the Season Champion
- Season Champion = Automatic Final Qualification
🏆 Final Championship Qualification – Top 8 Teams
Step 1: Lock in Season Champions
Each season produces one Champion Club with accumulated points from all brackets:
- Champions automatically qualify for the Final
- A club can only occupy one Final spot, even if they win multiple seasons
Step 2: Fill Remaining Final Spots (Up to 8 Total)
After Champions are confirmed:
- Remove Champion teams from the list
- Compare all remaining clubs’ season win/loss ratio
- Rank teams by their best single-season win/loss ratio
- Select the highest-ranked clubs until 8 total clubs are confirmed
🪜 Final Seeding (1–8)
Final seeding is based on season point totals:
- Higher points = higher seed
- Seeding determines Final bracket positioning
🆕 How New Team Can Qualify
A club joining in Season 2 or Season 3 starts at 0 points like everyone else.
Can qualify by winning that season or posting one of the highest season point totals.
🚀 Late entry does not remove a team’s chance to reach the Final.
🧠 One-Line Club Summary
Win = 3 points, Loss = 1 point. Points add up within each season only. Season Champions auto-qualify, and the strongest season performances fill the remaining Top 8 Final spots.
Championship Final OPPONENT SELECTION (CAPTAIN DRAFT)
Instead of a fixed bracket, KLYNG CUP uses a Strategic Opponent Selection Model.
How Opponent Selection Works:
- Seed #1 earns the first right to select their opponent from Seeds #5–#8
- Seed #2 selects second from the remaining Seeds #5–#8
- Seed #3 selects third from the remaining Seeds #5–#8
- Seed #4 is automatically matched with the final remaining team from Seeds #5–#8
🏆 Official Roster & National Final Rules
1️⃣ Seasonal Team Structure
- Each team must register 6 official players per season.
- Each team may list up to 2 internal substitutes.
- Subs may only replace official roster players during that season.
- Subs do not count toward the 6-player roster.
- Subs can play for other teams if they are not on the stop roster.
- Rosters must be submitted and announced within 7 days after each season ends.
Teams may rearrange their 6-player roster at the start of each new season.
2️⃣ National Final Qualification
Total Final Teams: 8
Automatic Qualification
- Spring Champion
- Summer Champion
- Fall Champion
Each seasonal champion automatically qualifies for the National Final.
Remaining 5 Spots
- Awarded based on highest cumulative win-loss ratio across all three seasons.
- If a seasonal champion is already ranked in the top 8, the next highest-ranked team advances.
Standings belong to the team entity (captain-led team), not individual players.
3️⃣ Final Roster Requirement (Core Player Rule)
If a team qualifies for the National Final:
- The Final roster must include at least 4 players from the team’s official season roster when they won the qualification.
- A team may add up to 2 replacement players, subject to approval.
- Replacement players must be approved Senior Open eligible players.
- No player may be added solely for the purpose of stacking a Final team.
This ensures continuity, loyalty, and competitive integrity.
4️⃣ Multi-Team Qualification Rule
If a player becomes eligible for more than one Final-qualified team:
- The player must declare which team they will represent within 2 days of Final qualification confirmation.
- A player may represent only one team in the National Final.
- Once declared, the decision is final.
- Teams losing a player due to this declaration may select a replacement player, subject to approval.
- All Final roster core-player requirements must still be satisfied.
Final eligibility belongs to the player, but representation must be declared clearly and promptly.
5️⃣ Eligibility Standards
- All players must be 50+ years old.
- All players must be approved as Senior Open competitive level.
- A player must have participated in at least one official stop in a season to be considered eligible for Final representation from that season.
🎯 Guiding Principles
The Senior Open division is designed to:
- Reward seasonal champions
- Encourage long-term team commitment
- Allow strategic flexibility
- Prevent last-minute stacking
- Maintain competitive balance in a limited elite talent pool
Senior Open is structured as a captain-led team model with protected roster integrity.
